Big Horn National Forest July 27th - July 31st

July 27th
Travel to Big Horn National Forest (Wyoming)
Located in north-central Wyoming, the Bighorn Mountains are halfway between Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone National Park.
Kitties are ready for the next leg of the trip to Bighorn National Forest

Heading toward Bighorn National Forest in northern Wyoming where there are 32 campgrounds, 14 picnic areas, 2 visitor centers, 2 ski areas, 7 lodges, 2 recreation lakes, 3 Scenic Byways and over 1,500 miles (2419 Km) of trails.

July 28th
Jeep Day to Crazy Woman Canyon near Buffalo, WY
Crazy Woman Canyon Road

Caution for the Crazy Woman Canyon Road

Just one of many great views going through the canyon

North Fork Crazy Woman Creek

If we could see the tops we would see Loaf, Bighorn, and Dayton Peaks at about 12,000ft each

This bull was not amused that we were in his territory (Red Grade forest road 26)

Look what we found, Dead Swede Campground (made us giggle). It is located just off the Bighorn Scenic Byway (U.S. Highway 14) near the Burgess Overlook and Woodrock areas at an elevation of 8,400 feet. We will need to try and reserve a spot like 14 when we return some day.
Warning sign for large vehicles

Dinner at the Arrowhead Lodge where they had some summer drink specials like a Srirach-Rita (which went well with pulled pork nachos)

They call the Bighorn mountains the sister mountains to the Rockies

Stopped by the Crazy Woman Saloon in Dayton, WY to round out the day
July 29th
Cloud Peak Skyway (Hwy 16) South end of national forest
Powder River Pass (9666 ft - highest pass in the park)

Loaf, Bighorn, and Dayton Peaks

Canyon driving on the west side of the byway

July 30th
Medicine Wheel Passage (Hwy 14 & 14A) North end of the national forest

Lars getting the best view of the Summit Pass (9430 ft)

Watch out for the open range animals
